Laughter and mayhem abound in this parody of Arizona professional baseball.
Audience members are the baseball executives from around the country
who have gathered at the Savings & Loan Ballpark for the winter
meetings. Your host is owner Col. Angelo and his charming wife Lulu
Belle. His "assistant," Tootsie Vivacious, is close at hand to attend
to any needs as she awaits her promised trip to Hollywood where she
thinks the Colonel will make her a star. Not pleased with her
husband's wandering eye, Lulu Belle takes a new interest in the
team...one person in particular.
Meanwhile,
The Big Eunuch, the star pitcher, has just received his new contract
from the Colonel and is outraged at the lack of appreciation
demonstrated by the compensation of only $47 million. Manager Swanny
Hack is trying to secure accomplished players to take them to the World
Series but can't get the stingy Colonel to bankroll his plans. Former
baseball great and non-hall-of-famer Pete Petunia is planning to make a
comeback and wants to be a part of the Piggybacks, but the contract the
Colonel offered is insulting. All this is much to Baseball Annie's
dismay, who prides herself in taking very good care of " "her boys."
So with this much animosity swirling around the field, is it any
surprise when the suspicious sextet discovers the Colonel's chamapane
bottle has literally gone to his head? Defective detective Lt.
Cloddumbo arrives on the scene to solve the case. Each character has
an alibi, but with the help of the audience, the case is cracked .

Dinner Theaters Serve Up Campy Mysteries

Murder at Savings & Loan Ballpark (S.Lo.B.)
The plot: Major League Baseball’s team owners
gather at a meeting held by Arizona Piggybacks owner Colonel Beauregard T.
Angelo (Gary Caswell, channeling Colonel Sanders); soon enough, Angelo is
murdered, and suspicion falls on everyone from his Southern belle wife
(Brenda Goodenberger) to star Piggyback player Rusty “Big Eunich” Schwantz
(Tom Koelbel), a mullet-headed, mincing guy played with all the subtlety
of Charles Nelson Reilly.
The victims: East Valley
playwright Alexx Stuart, who’s penned several local sports-themed shows,
leaves nothing sporty unspoofed: baseball groupies, Pete Rose, concessions
stand prices, University of Arizona football — even Kinko’s employees and
Gov. Janet Napolitano get whacked.
Grade: B+ Batter up!
Stuart’s show is snappier — and more locally minded — than the usual
murder mystery fare.
